Mariya Angelova, Senior Counsellor

Pronouns: she / her

Hi, I am Mariya!

Opening up to another person about our troubles and personal lives can be daunting, yet it can empower us to bring about positive change in ourselves and our relationships. As a counsellor, I take the approach of co-creating solutions with my clients in a safe and supportive space. I believe every individual is able to make better choices and a difference for themselves. A conversation is a great first step!

I started my career as a teacher for both adolescent and adult learners before moving onto full-time counselling. Psychology has been a strong area of interest for me since young and after supporting some of my students in their personal challenges, I decided to further my education and move on to a counselling role. Since then, I have worked in a secondary school, providing social-emotional counselling and overseeing the career guidance programme for 7 years.

My area of expertise is working with adolescents, families and adults and my practice is informed by Choice Theory Reality Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

More About Me

I was born and raised in Bulgaria, pursued my Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences (Psychology) in the Netherlands, and have called Singapore my home since 2009. My free time is mostly spent with my infant daughter but when I find the time, I like to go for a run, read a book and work on projects related to mental health.
